In 2010, the MoMA held a retrospective of Marina Abramović’s work titled “The Artist Is Present.” The exhibition was a performance piece which lasted 736 hours and 30 minutes—equivalent to 31 days. During this marathon performance, Marina sat silently on a wooden chair, directly engaging with visitors without exchanging any words.
Throughout the exhibition, more than 750,000 visitors participated in this experience including her former lover: Ulay after more than two decades of silence. What unfolded was a silent conversation that transcended time and art.
