MAISON MARTIN MARGIELA

Martin Margiela, the enigmatic Belgian fashion designer, was born in Genk, Belgium, in 1957. After studying at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp alongside other notable designers of the Antwerp Six, Margiela launched his eponymous fashion label in 1988. From the outset, Margiela's avant-garde approach challenged conventional fashion norms, emphasizing deconstruction, anonymity, and unconventional materials. He became known for his iconic "tabi" boots, oversized silhouettes, and signature white lab coat worn during public appearances. Margiela's designs often featured raw edges, exposed seams, and recycled materials, reflecting his commitment to sustainability and anti-establishment ethos. Throughout his career, Margiela shunned the spotlight, rarely granting interviews or appearing in public, allowing his creations to speak for themselves.
