Founded by designer Jun Takahashi, born in Kiryu, Japan in 1969. Takahashi discovered his passion for fashion during his teenage years, inspired by punk rock music and street culture. In 1990, while studying at Bunka Fashion College in Tokyo, Takahashi established Undercover alongside his friend, Nigo, as a response to the prevailing streetwear scene. The brand quickly gained attention for its subversive designs, blending elements of punk, goth, and avant-garde fashion. Throughout the 1990s, Undercover continued to evolve, incorporating innovative textiles, experimental silhouettes, and intricate graphic prints into its collections. In the 2000s, Takahashi's creative vision expanded to encompass womenswear, further solidifying Undercover's reputation as a trailblazer in the fashion industry.
