YOHJI YAMAMOTO

Born on October 3, 1943, in Tokyo, Japan, Yamamoto studyied law at Keio University, quickly shifting his focus to fashion, enrolling at Bunka Fashion College in Tokyo. In 1972, he launched his eponymous label, debuting with a collection that challenged conventional notions of beauty and femininity. Yamamoto's designs, characterized by their oversized silhouettes, monochromatic color palette, and avant-garde draping techniques, quickly gained attention for their groundbreaking approach to fashion. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Yamamoto's brand continued to evolve, earning him international acclaim and solidifying his reputation as a pioneer in the fashion industry. He is credited with revolutionizing contemporary fashion with his fusion of Eastern and Western aesthetics, his exploration of gender fluidity, and his rejection of traditional fashion norms.
