The Aphex Twin logo, an enigmatic and iconic symbol, has fascinated fans and designers alike. Created by graphic and type designer Paul Nicholson, it defies conventional letterforms. Nicholson’s fascination with abstract symbols and their reduction to essential shapes led him to craft this distinctive mark. He describes it as “a mark of authenticity, defining a masterly understanding of electronic bleeps, bops, and noodles”. The logo, resembling an alien ‘A’, first appeared on the sleeve of Aphex Twin’s album “Xylem Tube” in 1992. Its allure lies in its simplicity, nuance, and otherworldly quality. In uncovered images, we can see his process from sketch to final product.
