A.F. Vandevorst Runway (SS 2001)

For their SS 2001 runway presentation, Belgian designer duo An Vandevorst and Filip Arickx deliberately integrated nylon stockings into the collection, emphasizing femininity. However, their fascination extended beyond mere hosiery. An Vandevorst’s infatuation with vintage silk stockings began during her teenage years. She scoured flea markets, drawn to their allure and craftsmanship.

The packaging of vintage silk stockings played a significant role in their charm. These delicate garments were sold in beautifully crafted boxes, wrapped in layers of delicate silk papers. Their fragility added to their mystique—they could only be worn once before risking damage.

For the runway show, the designers transformed a gymnasium into an ethereal space. A black nylon gauze box separated the audience from the models, creating an illusion akin to looking through a veil. Against this backdrop, the collection unfolded, showcasing a palette of nude tones.
