Yves Saint Laurent, born on August 1, 1936, in Oran, Algeria, was a French fashion designer who left an indelible mark on the world of haute couture. In 1962, he founded his eponymous fashion label, which would become synonymous with elegance, innovation, and timeless style. Saint Laurent’s influence extended far beyond the runway; he played a pivotal role in shaping the fashion landscape of the 1960s.

During this transformative era, Saint Laurent’s designs reflected the sociopolitical climate. His Rive Gauche boutique, opened in 1966 in Paris, became a hub for avant-garde fashion, and in the same year his iconic ‘Le Smoking’ jacket was introduced, redefining evening wear. His creations were both daring and practical, capturing the spirit of change.
