“Chopper Chicks in Zombietown”, formerly known as “Chrome Hearts”, is a quirky American comedy horror film written and directed by Dan Hoskins. Released by Troma Entertainment, it features early roles by Billy Bob Thornton and Hal Sparks before they gained fame. The film also includes a cameo appearance by former MTV veejay Martha Quinn.
The plot revolves around an all-female motorcycle gang called the “Cycle Sluts.” These badass bikers ride into the isolated town of Zariah, seeking adventure. However, they stumble upon a dark secret: an evil scientist-turned-mortician has been killing local townspeople and turning them into zombies. These reanimated corpses serve as labor in an abandoned, radioactive mine. The scientist’s motivation? Not just money, but sheer malevolence. The zombies escape, wreaking havoc, and the Cycle Sluts decide to take matters into their own hands.
Richard Stark, the founder of Chrome Hearts, had a personal connection to the film. His then-girlfriend, who happened to be the lead guitarist Steve Jones’s girlfriend, starred in “Chopper Chicks in Zombietown” and Stark was tasked with the costume design of the project, adding a touch of rock ‘n’ roll flair to the film’s aesthetic. Stark, inspired by the original name of the film adopted it for his brand founded one year before the film’s release.
