Rick Owens Interview on Videofashion by André Leon Talley (1997)

At the time of the 1997 interview with André Leon Talley on Videofashion, Rick Owens was already establishing himself as a prominent figure in the fashion industry. Having launched his eponymous label in 1994, Owens was gaining recognition for his innovative and boundary-pushing designs that challenged conventional notions of beauty and luxury. His collections were characterized by their dark, edgy aesthetic, incorporating elements of gothic and punk subcultures with avant-garde silhouettes, sensuality, and self indulgence.

The themes of decayed glamour, rawness, and rebellion that Owens discussed in the interview were central to his design ethos and would continue to be recurrent motifs throughout his career. As Owens' brand evolved over the years, these themes became even more pronounced, with his collections often exploring concepts of decay, dystopia, and the human condition.
