In this captivating 1981 interview with Videofashion, the visionary Japanese fashion designer Issey Miyake offered insights into his creative process before his Fall/Winter runway show. Miyake, known for seamlessly integrating design, technology, and engineering into his fashion, shared his adventurous approach to clothing. He expressed, “I’m not trying to make fashion, fashion. I just make clothes with an adventurous mind.” 

During the FW1981 presentation, Miyake’s avant-garde designs took center stage with a blend of minimalism, innovation and unconventional materials. The runway featured garments that incorporated pleated fabric for one of the first time in Miyake’s career. This technique would later become synonymous with the house’s brand and garners mainstream attention to this day.
