Presented at London Fashion Week on the 18th of October 1993, Alexander McQueen’s 'Nihilism' SS 1994 collection marked McQueen’s first official catwalk show, set in the Bluebird garage.

This collection showcased signature design elements that would become a staple of McQueen’s, pushing boundaries and challenging conventions. Among the standout pieces were the iconic ‘bumster’ pants, which featured an ultra-low waistline, daringly revealing the lower back. These pants became emblematic of McQueen’s rebellious spirit and his penchant for subverting norms.

Latex bodices, crop tops, and avant-garde silhouettes dominated the runway. McQueen’s fascination with the darker aspects of existence—themes of decay, rebellion, and existential questioning—was palpable throughout the collection. The name itself, ‘Nihilism,’ suggests a rejection of traditional values and a celebration of the void.

The show’s soundtrack, curated by Scroobily, was a a mesmerizing blend of haunting melodies and industrial beats.
