Shown in Alexander McQueen’s Autumn/Winter 2001 collection, What a Merry-Go-Round, these trousers belong to the designer’s final London runway presentation before his womenswear shows moved to Paris. The season explored a darker vision of childhood, pairing elongated silhouettes with the unsettling imagery of clowns, carousels, and fractured memory. Within that context, this piece reflects the collection’s tension between theatrical unease and disciplined construction. What a Merry-Go-Round was later featured in Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in 2011.
